I joined Make Believe when I was 15 years old. I’m 20 now and I can still say it’s been an amazing experience.

Admittedly, I’ve always been a ‘drama queen’ since I was young. I was constantly performing wherever I went; a shop, school, bedtime – you name it! However, I never had the confidence to take it further and join acting groups, until my mum met a Make Believe ambassador whilst out on a shopping trip. My parents paid for the classes and next thing I knew, I was performing 3 hours a week at Make Believe, Woking.

I loved every second I spent there. My confidence grew, I made incredible friends and bonded with the teachers. A talent scout came in to the school one evening and as I was heading out the door, she handed me a contract and told me she’d love to represent me. I was in shock! It was an incredible feeling and I’m so grateful I was given that opportunity.

A month later, I was in the head quarters getting head shots, meeting the team and discussing auditions. I knew I was beginning an exciting adventure.

Auditions at first were exciting but very scary. However, as time went on I learned how to be professional and calm the nerves; my Drama A-level course and Make Believe contributed to this. I’d meet wonderful casting directors and lovely actors. I soon learned to take rejection on the chin and look forward to the next opportunity.

After many auditions, I was lucky enough to land my first professional commercial for Hive which aired worldwide! It was so surreal getting a phone call in the middle of college to be told I’d been offered a professional acting role and I’d be on the telly! The day of filming is a day I will never forget. I remember getting my hair and makeup done and being placed in front of all the cameras and lights and thinking ‘wow. I’ve worked so hard to get here and I’m closer to living my dream’. The day it got aired was so cool! My mum rang me whilst I was at my part time job to tell me she’d seen me whilst watching Coronation Street! Shortly after, I managed to land another commercial for Double Tree Hilton Hotels which also aired internationally.

Currently, I am in my first year of training at a drama school on a 3 year degree course and it is the best! Prior to this, I completed an acting foundation course which cost an expensive £10,000. I managed to fund this with the help of my supportive parents, my savings from the commercials and some fundraising.

Training as an actor is very intense and hard work but so rewarding. What drives me, is to see how far I’ve come and the need to strive for more. I’m forever grateful to Make Believe for giving me the confidence and opportunities to start my professional acting career. Believe you can do it and you will.
